Students need to be interested in the world around them and be prepared to question established thinking. Students are encouraged to think about society from a range of perspectives and as such, a flexible and enquiring approach is needed. Strong essay writing skills are important and a desire to read and debate are important.
Radioactivity and Particles structure of the atom, atomic and mass number, alpha beta and gamma rays and their properties, half-life and dangers of ionisation, alpha particle scattering and their implication, fission and chain reaction.
Although a lot of practical work is carried out throughout the year, NO course work is needed for the exam.
The AS course comprises 7 units, taken in the first year. This course is designed to enable students to communicate confidently and clearly in the language, both through the spoken and written word. This modern course involves the study of contemporary language in writing and speech.
For students who wish to (re)sit A-Level unit exams, we offer all written papers from Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJEC - but no practical exams or coursework.

The legacy A-level (final exams summer 7568 for first sit or summer 7569 for resit) comprises of six modules: C6, C7, C8, C9 which cover pure content and M6 and S6 which cover mechanics and statistics. These exams are 6h85 in length and 75 marks each. Three exams are needed for AS level and six exams for A-level.
For modern foreign languages we offer the Edexcel IGCSE in French, Spanish and German - there is an additional cost for these units as a speaking exam is involved. We do not offer GCSEs in modern languages from other exam boards.

using different approaches to recording images, such as, observation, analysis, expression and imagination. Showing in their work an understanding of the conventions of representational and abstract/ non-representational imagery and genres. Investigating different ways of working, as appropriate to their chosen area(s) of study within Art and Design or Fine Art. Providing evidence of an understanding of spatial qualities, composition, rhythm, scale and structure. Finally providing evidence of the use of safe working practices.
Makes up 75% of the AS Physics and counts towards 65% of the GCE
This unit involves an experiment that is based on a physics-based visit or a case study of an application of physics.
Students are required to sit two exams, Component 6 – the breadth study (worth 85 marks) in a two and a half hour exam, and Component 7 (also worth 85 marks), and also in a two and a half hour exam. Both exams feature one source based essay where three contemporary or historians’ sources based on interpretations are compared, and two further essays which focus mainly on change, continuity and significance. Students also submit a 8,555 word essay as part of their Non-Examined Assessment (worth 95 marks).
